Check out New Books in History: A Weekly Podcast Run by Marshall Poe, University of Iowa

The object of this show is two fold: 1) It is an attempt to bring challenging and fascinating work by scholars from a variety of historical fields to the attention of the public at large. Most of the books profiled on this show are published by academic, foreign or small publishing houses and therefore are limitedly distributed in the United States; 2) It is a small attempt to break mainstream media’s monopoly on the discussion of history. Unfortunately the highlighting of history (particularly professionally produced history) is subject either to contemporary expedience (political crises or otherwise) or to the whims of large publishing houses. History @ 33 1/3 is an attempt to clear the air and portray the panorama of history on a global scale.

This is not Hollywood history in sound bites. History @ 33 1/3
offers the stage to historians without reservation or trepidation.
